Dos nuevos remolcadores se incorporaron a la flota del Canal de Panamá

¿Cual es la razón de las 2 nuevos remolcadores ? fortaleciendo la eficiencia operativa y mantener un servicio seguro, dijo un comunicado de prensa de la entidad.

Durante una ceremonia realizada en el muelle de Cruceros de Amador, fueron bautizados los remolcadores “Isla Carenero” e “Isla Parida” , cada uno con una eslora de 27 metros y una manga de 12 metros. Las madrinas de las embarcaciones fueron Jana Allen , gerente de Administración de Relaciones Laborales y Reglamentos, y Jania Guardia , gerente de Contratos de Obras Civiles.

Estas embarcaciones desempeñan un papel clave en la operación diaria del Canal, al asistir a los buques en las maniobras de entrada y salida de esclusas, así como durante su tránsito por el Corte Culebra, una de las secciones más exigentes de la vía. También son indispensables para garantizar un tránsito seguro y ágil a través de las esclusas neopanamax, donde se requiere máxima maniobrabilidad y precisión.

Los remolcadores incorporados pertenecen al modelo Z-Tech 6000 , reconocido internacionalmente por su eficiencia energética, alto desempeño operativo y capacidad de respuesta. Este diseño, adoptado por los principales puertos del mundo, ha demostrado ser ideal para operaciones de asistencia intensiva como las que se realizan en el Canal de Panamá.

El Canal introdujo por primera vez remolcadores Z-Tech en 2007 como parte de su plan de modernización de flota, y con esta nueva incorporación reafirma su compromiso de mantenerse a la vanguardia tecnológica para optimizar recursos y tiempos de tránsito.

Los remolcadores forman parte de un contrato de fletamento suscrito con el consorcio CPT-PSAM , lo que permite ampliar la capacidad operativa sin comprometer la eficiencia financiera ni la flexibilidad en la gestión de flota.

Con estas nuevas unidades, el Canal de Panamá continúa fortaleciendo su capacidad de respuesta ante las demandas del comercio global, consolidando una operación que prioriza la eficiencia, la sostenibilidad y la excelencia en el servicio.

Christmas Cargo Diverted to Panamanian Ports Due to Collapse of Caldera Port in Costa Rica

Due to the collapse of Puerto Caldera in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, a significant number of vessels carrying Christmas cargo have had to reroute to Panamanian ports, reported the General Director of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries

- (DGPIMA), Max Florez.

“Panama once again demonstrates that it maintains a robust logistical system and can support the contingencies of other countries,” Florez stated.

Costa Rican importers are now transporting their goods overland through Paso Canoas in Chiriquí. This alternative, which represents an additional cost of between US$1,000 to US$1,500 per container, allows businesses to meet the high commercial demand typical during the year-end holiday season.

Recently, Costa Rica announced the start of an international tender to hire a company to operate the terminal beginning in 2026, when the current contract with Sociedad Portuaria de Caldera (SPC) expires.

The Caldera terminal requires an immediate investment of US$30 million for short-term improvements while the construction of a new terminal in Puntarenas progresses.

Florez highlighted that Panama's port infrastructure has proven to be a fundamental pillar for the region, successfully managing the needs of other countries during critical situations. This year alone, Panamanian ports have supported the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Jamaica, and Haiti.
